When your air conditioner quits during an Austin summer, the house heats up fast. On a 100-degree afternoon, a closed-up home can pass 85°F within a few hours, and that's hard on kids, older family members and pets. Kassa Kool gets your cooling back without the runaround. We diagnose the actual failure, explain it in plain language and give you a firm price before any work starts.
Kassa Kool is engineer-owned, and that shapes how we work. We measure refrigerant pressures, temperatures and electrical readings instead of guessing. Then we repair what's broken. We don't sell you a new system you don't need.
If you see ice, turn the system off at the thermostat and set the fan to “On” so it can thaw. Running a frozen system can damage the compressor, which is the most expensive part to replace.
Heat is hard on electrical parts. A capacitor that has been baking inside a condenser all summer is one of the most common reasons an AC stops running. It's usually a quick and affordable repair, and we carry common sizes on the truck.
An AC doesn't use up refrigerant. If it's low, there's a leak. We find the leak before adding refrigerant, because topping off a leaking system just means paying again next month. Systems built before 2010 often use R-22, which is no longer made and costs much more to recharge. For those, replacement is sometimes the better deal.
Austin's humidity means your AC pulls gallons of water out of the air every day. When the drain line clogs with algae, the system can shut itself off or overflow into your ceiling. We clear the line and can add a float switch to protect against future leaks.
A frozen coil usually comes from a dirty filter, a weak blower or low refrigerant. We fix the cause, not just the ice, so it doesn't happen again next week.
Outdoor fan motors and indoor blower motors wear out, especially in systems that run 12 hours a day in July. We stock common motors so more repairs are finished in one visit.
Sometimes the AC is fine and the problem is a thermostat, a loose wire or a tripped safety switch. When that's all it is, we'll tell you, and the fix costs a lot less.
We lean toward repair whenever it's the smarter use of your money. Consider replacement when your system is 12 to 15 years old or more, uses R-22 refrigerant, needs a new compressor or coil, or has needed several repairs in the past two years. A simple rule of thumb: multiply the repair cost by the system's age in years. If the result is over about $5,000, replacement often pays off through lower bills and fewer breakdowns. We'll show you the numbers and let you decide. Learn more about AC installation and replacement, including financing and Austin Energy rebates.
We repair Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Bosch, Mitsubishi, ComfortMaker, Goodman, Rheem and most other brands, including heat pumps and ductless mini-splits. We work in homes across Austin, from older pier-and-beam houses in Crestview and Allandale, where attic space is tight, to newer builds in Circle C and Avery Ranch. We also serve Cedar Park, Round Rock, Leander, Pflugerville and Lakeway.
Most summer breakdowns start as small problems a tune-up would catch, like a weakening capacitor or a slow drain. Our maintenance plan includes spring and fall visits, priority scheduling during heat waves and 10% off repairs.
How much does AC repair cost in Austin?
Most common repairs, like replacing a capacitor or clearing a drain line, cost a few hundred dollars or less. Bigger repairs such as a fan motor or a leak repair cost more. We charge a trip and diagnostic fee, which can be waived for certain repairs, and you get a firm price before any work begins.
Can you fix my AC today?
Often, yes. We keep time open for same-day repairs on most weekdays. Call in the morning for the best chance of a same-day visit. After-hours appointments are also available.
Why is my AC running but not cooling?
The most common causes are a dirty air filter, a failed outdoor fan or capacitor, low refrigerant from a leak, or a frozen coil. Check your filter and make sure the outdoor fan is spinning. If the air is still warm, turn the system off and call us.
Is it worth repairing an old air conditioner?
Sometimes. A small repair on a 14-year-old system can still be a good deal. A compressor replacement on an R-22 system usually isn't. We'll give you both prices so you can compare.
Do you repair all AC brands?
Yes, including central air, heat pumps and ductless mini-splits from all major manufacturers.
Mon–Fri 8 AM–5 PM. After-hours appointments available.
