Most of us spend the majority of our time indoors, and the air inside a home can carry more dust, allergens and chemicals than people expect. Austin adds its own challenges: cedar and oak pollen, a long cooling season, high humidity and tightly sealed newer homes that hold on to whatever gets inside.
Kassa Kool is engineer-owned, and we don't start with a product to sell. We look at your filtration, airflow, humidity and system condition first, then recommend only what will make a real difference.
That's often a sign of moisture and microbial growth on the coil, the drain pan or inside the ductwork. Air fresheners only cover it up. Finding and treating the source fixes it.
A purifier installed in your HVAC system treats the air as it circulates, so every room with a vent benefits, not just the space around a portable unit. One of our preferred brands is Solaris: made in the USA, with a lifetime warranty (UV lamps excluded, since they're replaced periodically).
Your evaporator coil stays wet for much of the year, which is where mold and bacteria like to grow. A UV-C light aimed at the coil and drain pan helps keep them clean, so your system stays healthier and more efficient.
Thin 1-inch filters either let fine dust through or choke airflow when they're rated high enough to catch it. We install media filter cabinets that hold a deeper 4- or 5-inch filter, capturing more dust, pollen and pet dander while letting your system breathe. The filters also last longer between changes.
Some purification technologies break down odors and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from cooking, pets, cleaning products and new furniture or cabinets, instead of masking them.
Leaky, dirty or poorly balanced ducts can pull in attic dust and leave rooms stuffy. We check airflow and ductwork and fix what's holding your system back. Learn more about why airflow matters.
Indoor humidity above about 60% feels clammy and encourages mold. Your AC removes some moisture, but an oversized system or Austin's humid spring and fall weather can leave the house cool and still sticky. We measure your humidity, check whether the AC is set up to remove enough moisture, and install whole-house dehumidifiers that tie into your ductwork to keep every room in range. See why a bigger system isn't better.
There's no single best air purifier for every home. Allergies, pets, smoke sensitivity, humidity and the layout of your ductwork all change the answer. We explain what each option does and doesn't do, so you can decide with real information.
Regular filter changes and a clean coil are the foundation of good indoor air. Our maintenance plan includes spring and fall visits for $16.67 a month, plus 10% off repairs.
Is a whole-home air purifier better than a portable one?
A portable purifier only treats the room it sits in. A whole-home system treats all the air that passes through your HVAC system, so every room with a vent benefits. For allergies throughout the house, whole-home is usually the better fit.
How often should I change my air filter in Austin?
Check it monthly during cooling season and replace it when it looks dirty. Standard 1-inch filters often need changing every 1 to 3 months, and thicker media filters can last longer. Homes with pets or heavy pollen may need more frequent changes.
Are UV lights for HVAC systems worth it?
For many Austin homes, yes. The evaporator coil stays wet for much of the year, and a UV-C light aimed at it helps keep mold and bacteria from growing there. The lamps need replacing periodically to stay effective.
Do I need a whole-house dehumidifier?
If your home stays above about 60% humidity, feels clammy even when it's cool, or has musty smells or condensation, a whole-house dehumidifier can help. It removes moisture independently of your AC, so it works even in mild weather when the AC barely runs. We measure first and only recommend one if your home needs it.
How much does indoor air quality equipment cost?
It depends on the equipment and your system. A filter upgrade costs far less than a whole-home purifier with UV. After a check, you get clear options and a firm written price before any work begins.
