Please be extremely cautious of proposals or ideas to increase the size of your HVAC units, by anyone on this planet, unless they support it by precise measurements of current system performance, airflow, and cooling needs of your house (Manual J)
Except if you added square footage, downgraded your windows or removed insulation, a bigger HVAC is not going to solve your comfort problem, but make it significantly worse.
An Oversized HVAC will do the following to your house:
Will cool it faster, at the expense of:
a) less energy efficiency – a cooling/ heating system works less efficient for the first minutes it starts, until it gets to stability. Can be 10 minutes.
b) Not dehumidify the air sufficient. You may end up with humidity in excess of 60% which promotes the growth of many things, including mold. Your space will feel clammy. i.e. cold and humid. Reason is that insufficient run time will not allow sufficient
latent cooling (dehumidification) to occur.
It will create a potentially unhealthy home if things start growing inside your ducts or air handler.
c) will make your living spaces noisier and drafty. Reason is that ducts are built to deliver a certain amount of air. If you increase volume of air with a bigger unit, the result will be noise and drafts.
There is no easy/ cheap solution to address issues caused by an oversized system. Think twice, and ask for a second opinion.
